A slight drizzle had begun by the time Quill entered the rendezvous area alongside the rest of the Lubruscan wolves, tiny water droplets clinging to his pelt and lashes like fragile drops of glass. The male had spent the walk stopping just about every time he noticed something that looked soft– a patch of moss here, discarded feathers there, and oh, was that a curling fern? – and by the time he came to a halt in the midst of the commons, he had quite the bundle of oddities held within his jaws and under his chin.
”Home sweet home!” He crowed, peering about with an analytical eye. The dense forest had opened seamlessly into a small, open field, as lush as the rest of Lubruscan lands seemed to be. The grass was soft and pliant beneath his paw pads, suggesting that the soil was soft and well-suited for burrows– at least until the ground froze beneath winter’s might. Some ways away from the central gathering area lay a few discarded dens, clearly unoccupied if the stale scent was anything to go by. The brute peered into three of them; the first was far too small to accommodate him, whilst the second had an abundance of cobwebs in the back that he just simply did not want to deal with. The third, though– the third would do well, after he expanded it just a bit. ”Dibs on this one,” He called to his sisters and anyone else who cared to listen as he shouldered his way into the burrow, disappearing from sight. It wasn’t long until debris began to fly out of the entrance as Quill made (surprisingly) quick work of enlarging the den, his muzzle scuffed with dirt as he reemerged just long enough to grab his abundance of soft things in his teeth and drag them backwards into the den. This was to be his sleeping area after all. He wasn’t willing to cut corners on his own comfort. Iris Clover @anyone else honestly

The empty haul of Ebony's charcoal body waded through the lively grove like a misplaced shadow, an inauspicious delusion of the past haunting the old trees of Lubrusca. He felt an icy crown digging into his skull when he came to the commons without Cecilia, and it was pulling out the incomplete memory of Maddox's return and demanding for itself a kind of attention Ebony was incapable of supplying. He could anticipate the influence his arrival would have on Cecilia's life more than his own, or maybe he was stiff off the probability he'd soon find himself a masterless slave once again; a dank, old, used fabric hung out to dry while watching the blood relatives drink from their rose chalice; in the home he'd unknowingly prepared for them. ”Home sweet home! Dibs on this one,” Quill croaked. The biting promise of winter's quiet approach feathered out of Quill's breath as a white plume. The black clouds forming over the canopy were like a welcoming carouse, their distant rumble a message to the land of the storm's impending arrival. The rain had already made its first contact and was beginning to greet the intensifying winds with misty swirls. "If the others don't make it back soon," Ebony droned, knowing that although Cecilia knew how certain portions of the land liquified easily at first rain and how to avoid the wet slopes, the others did not and would rely on her expertise to make it home safely. Then, after the fact, she'd seek comfort from the social exhaustion of being dependable in her reunited family instead of him, the only thing close to it she had until now. Ebony put away his thoughts realizing they weren't really his, but a trick of the mind he was somewhat comfortable claiming. A precious feeling this was, jittering jealously, because he had someone to thank for it. Dead white eyes perched gently on Euphoria's red figure, her hopeful youth a promise to Ebony that he still had something to give. "Here, let me help you," the spectral protector purled coming up behind her to assist in establishing her densite. Euphoria Quill Iris Clover

-An hour-ish time-skip to get everyone into the commons-The totality of the storm befell the forest in a matter of minutes. It's like the sky sucked up every lake within its view it spit it out all at once, putting things back into place as they had been found. The quiet whistle returned to the trees and the mossy floor drank up the fresh moisture fresh layering the commons. The weather would have made Mayerthu's and Cecilia's trek home a laborious one, which became evident as they arrived to the rendezvous with mud caked on their heels. With them came a testament to his suspicion, the once forgotten visage of Milo. You couldn't call it excitement, but there was a glint of gratification in Ebony's alabaster-coated eyes as they scanned Milo with unfiltered scrutiny, his disproportionately towering legs holding most of his attention. "I didn't expect you to grow with such vertical projection. I imagine you had no trouble making it up the rainy slopes?" Ebony asked with complete stillness in his face, briefly looking to Cecilia for an endorsement of his assumption. Not far from her was the imminent expression of Mayerthu, whose report Ebony had been awaiting all this time. "Mayerthu, let's talk." Ebony circled around, surveying the party of wolves as they trickled in from the border. His new insider wouldn't have taken them all this way without having given each of them a thorough investigation at the borders, and to eliminate bias from their responses, he'd take them down privately from Mayerthu directly. With any luck––which, when it came to giving social cues, he required an exceptionally high dose––his expectant glare would invite her to share her experience and insights regarding her trip to the border and conversations with these newcomers; anything that would help him determine the status of Lubrsuca's outskirts, the capabilities of his newly appointed sentinel, and the intentions of the diverse cluster of wolves who had just entered this home. SOLIDIFIED IN PURPOSE MAYERTHU NEVER IS A WEAKNESS The commons seemed very full to Mayerthu upon arrival as she had never seen so many wolves gathered in a single area before and as a surprise to herself, she found her eyes briefly search for Quill, shaking the water from her pelt, Mayerthu's attention was directed upon Ebony, and she approached him with purpose as the group of waterlogged wolves arrived in stride. Her usually dark bushy tail was flattened to a heavy liquid-soaked appendage that she shook briefly to relieve herself of the extra burden. Ebony's expression said nothing to most, but she could see that he had been waiting for her report. Sitting before him her lopsided ear giving her a somewhat goofy look in comparison to her razor-edged demeanor, she lowered her voice enough to speak to him so that only he would hear. "The trip to the borders was eventful, I took a few liberties concerning whom I let into the pack, as... uncertain as I am about it, I turned away an Elder. The reddish-brown brute is Katsumi he has medicinal knowledge. The older she-wolf with the odd paws is Akari, she's knowledgeable and spry and compassionate from what I have observed, then of course there's Milo whom we collected at the borders, as for the young one, that is Salem thus far a quiet and reserved wolf with room to grow."She took a breath before continuing "I turned away an old male named Azazel which seemed like a logical choice at the time given he seemed close to the end of his life, but I do regret allowing an elder to roam the forests to perish alone, maybe it is guilt or maybe I just wanted to hear his war stories, either way, that is the only wolf I didn't accept today."She rolled her paw side-to-side to dislodge a particularly well packed piece of mud from her toes and turned her crimson gaze back to Ebony. She considered the state of things at the border and the pack as of current. "Cecilia was preoccupied with her reunion as expected so I took charge for the mission, but she did well to lead us there. The wolves seemed uncertain when it came to the borders, and I believe once these rains pass, we would do well to remark our borders with fresh scent. Preferably all the males to give a stronger impression so we are not deemed weak and seen as a target. As for these newer wolves I haven't seen anything from any of them that draws concern to the safety of the pack, and I believe they can all be of use."With that she dipped her head and looked at him wondering if he had any further questions about the trek. "Oh and before I forget to ask, when should pups be expected? That way I know how much time the pack has to prepare of course." she said straight faced looking from him to Cecilia who was a bit away out of earshot. The splashes of rain hitting his face weren't the best feeling, but it didn't dampen his mood nearly as much as it dampened the grass. The commons looked just like he remembered, if not a bit smaller. He was only a year old when the fire sent him away. What a contrast this was, to return to it soaked! This, the giraffe determined, was much better than when he had left it. Seeing it with his own two eyes again almost made him tear up with joy. Good thing it was raining so no one would be able to tell. He scanned the divots in the grass, catching a familiar one. The den he and his siblings had grown up in, still empty after all these years. He inhaled a deep breath of Lubruscan air to calm his nerves and to fully let it sink in. He was home. "I didn't expect you to grow with such vertical projection. I imagine you had no trouble making it up the rainy slopes?" the monotonous, familiar tone of Ebony graced his ears through the rain. Though the inky male never showed it, Milo was happy to compensate for both of them with a smile so wide it could be mistaken for lightning in someone's peripherals. "Ebony! No problem at all. I figured your old creaky bones would have a harder time!" he jested, lightly bumping his elder playfully knowing full well that Ebony would never play back. In a way, that's what made him the best to tease. The male seemed to have no buttons to press, so Milo could practically use him as practice for his jokes without repercussion. Finally looking up, he noticed quite a few new faces also in the commons. He drifted away from Ebony as the other male began a very boring-sounding conversation with Mayerthu and scanned around the lush trees popping with green. One male, in particular, stood out to him. He looked similar in age to himself, and the red hues of his pelt stood out in against the greens. Another female, looking quite young and very unique to the other wolves, also grabbed his attention for her fiery orange fur. Those two were hard to miss! Deciding to head for the male, Milo's tail wagged enthusiastically as he splashed his way there. "Hey, I'm Milo! I'm Cece and Maddox's brother, have you met them yet? Sorry, I grew up here and I haven't been back in a while and I have no clue who's met who yet! What's your name? How long have you been here?" the chatty male bombarded the other with questions, head tilting slightly from side to side as he talked. His one folded ear flopped back and forth slightly as he did so, splashing small droplets of water onto his paws just to add to the general muddy atmosphere. Ebony Quill Euphoria

After the red eyed she-wolf, Mayerthu, had accepted all but one of the wolves into the pack, things moved rather quickly. As the storm rolled in the rain poured down onto the traveling canines, leaving most of Akari's lighter fur slick and muddy. The journey to the commons would have certainly been easier without having to stay low on all of the inclines, trying to avoid sliding down with the mud. Akari knew that Mayerthu wasn't wrong in her reasoning to send Azazel away, older wolves in a pack could only do so much. It was exactly that that made the speckle eyed lupine wonder if she could've been in the same position if she were a year or two older. For the most part, the trek to get to the center of Lubruscan lands was uneventful, besides a few slides back down a middle hill given the downpour from the storm. By the time the group reached the common grounds, Akari's pelt was soaked through, and mud clung to her fur from the chest down. She was never one to dislike the rain, but having constant, steadily heavy rain was not something she looked forward to, especially when traveling. As the newest pack members entered the clearing, bordered by what looked to be almost a perfect ring of trees, a few of them dispersed to mingle with other individuals. The rain wasn't as bothersome here, where the tree cover thickened, the precipitation lessened to a drizzle. Seating herself under a patch of trees, Akari began to rid herself of the mud she had acquired. Observing her surroundings, she noticed the majority of the pack consisted of adult wolves. That being said, the more adult wolves usually meant more pups come spring. It would be a guessing game as to how many more mouths there would be to feed, but that wasn't something the dark she-wolf has an issue with, little ones were always a blessing. It was around that time that her ears caught some talk of pups from Mayerthu, who's mind apparently also wandered in that direction. Having gotten most of the mud out of her fur, she approached two of the females and asked how their day had been so far. Doing so was a common and easy way to start a conversation, and right now seemed to be as good of a time as any to start forming a relationship with her fellow pack members. Clover Iris

I Hold On To This Pride Because These Days, It's All I Have Time seemed to tick away as Lubrusca's new vanguard made themselves home in the common grounds. It still felt so strange to Iris, being around so many other wolves. Even though her parents had been a part of the original Lubrusca pack, Iris had never walked these lands before Ebony had accepted them. In a way, Iris still felt out of place. Even though the Protector had extended his welcome to her, it felt like she was stealing another wolf's home. Like it was wrong to call this place hers.
Although she had to admit, it was also nice being here. To think that her parents had walked these same grounds. And she liked to think that perhaps the den she had made her own had been theirs before her. It was a sort of comfort, to think she was truly following in their paw steps. And maybe one day this place truly would be home.
And speaking of home, it seemed like the scouting patrol had returned with more pack members. While one of the newcomers seemed to take a liking to her brother, yet another one had approached her and Clover. I don't even know this wolf. She just got here. I just got here. How did I already end up in a conversation with her?
What was she even supposed to do when a wolf approached her? She couldn't just give her the cold shoulder, they were supposed to be pack mates. Didn't Ebony want this pack to be like a family? But they had never even spoken to each other before this point, this was Iris's first time even seeing this wolf. What should she even say?
Well she supposed she could answer the question.
"My day has been fairly well, I suppose." She wasn't quite sure what else to say on top of that. She just decided it would be better for Clover to lead the conversation. Clover was a better talker anyway. Clover Akari - 328 Words - Congrats on making Iris panic for a little bit

Clover just finished making her new den feel like home. They spent years travelling and made new den weekly, so Clover polished the skill rather quickly. She decorated the entrance with nearby clover patches to let everyone know it was her den and filled the inside with torn grass to make it softer to lie on. Leaving the den, she groaned when she felt the rain begin to pour down. She squinted, trying to stop the rain from getting into her eyes while making her way off to Iris' and Quill's den. She scanned their new homes and judged the creative choices, especially Quills. Though the rain made it difficult, her nose caught new scents. Her head instantly turned to the entrance of the common grounds and her olive eyes spotted 4 newcomers. For some reason, she didn't feel excited or happy when more wolves filled the land... After all, she only ever lived with her siblings and that's all she knew... It was only just the three of them, and it was evident that she was being unfair to these wolves by dismissing them. Eh. Clover noticed that one of the tall newcomers was chatting with Quill and eyeing Euphoria - the little orange pup she met at the hunting grounds. Deciding to let her brother make some friends, she headed towards Iris. Clover padded to her sister who wasn't too far from her den and was just about to open her mouth to ask her a question when a stranger waltzed up to them and asked how they were doing. This caused the she-wolf to raise a brow. No introduction? She could sense that Iris was a bit nervous, probably because this stranger came out of nowhere. "My day has been fairly well, I suppose," Iris replied, but Clover could still tell that her younger sister was on edge. She gently nudged her, in an 'I'll handle this' way and stepped in front.
"I'm Clover. Didn't catch your name," Clover said rather bluntly, her piercing olive eyes staring into the female's brown ones. She didn't want to give off hostile energy without reason, but Clover was also a bit on edge, she didn't trust this stranger. She knows she shouldn't judge others based on a first impression, so gave a small smile afterwards. If the lupine replied with her name, Clover would nod, before responding to the initial question. "We're doing great. Actually, we were just about to..." She trailed off losing her train of thought as her eyes travelled behind the red-furred female. Her brows were furrowed as she looked at something in the distance, concern plastered on her face.
A trail of dark smoke could be seen in the sky. If Clover wasn't looking at it as intently, she would've mistaken it for dark rain clouds like the ones overhead. It was unlikely that it was a forest fire, as the smoke would've been coming from a bigger territory rather than a specific spot... Clover had no clue what was causing it. It seemed to be coming from a land she hadn't explored yet, but thankfully it was pretty far from Lubrusca, so they'd be safe for now... But Clover shrugged it off for now. If the smoke got worse and the wind started blowing it in their direction, Clover may have to lead her siblings further into the territory.

Trotting into the common grounds, the trip in felt like it was much faster than when he had first arrived in the territory. That trip had felt so long, but his feet carried him faster and stronger now that he had his siblings with him it seemed. He had a home now, one that he knew was populated with wolves that could take care of him and his siblings. Although the ones that he once knew as family were gone, he had a few still remaining, and new friends to make. He hoped with time, he would be able to make those friends. As Mayerthu reported to Ebony, he made sure Cecilia was okay, before listening in on Milo, seeing him approach and bombard someone with questions, to which he chuckled. Milo had always been outgoing since they were younger, making for great conversation starters and a diffuser to tension. He was always good with others and Maddox had missed him dearly. As the cream colored male looked over the pack, his eyes caught onto the smoke, and he felt like his world was crumbling around him again. The black plumes billowing sparked something in him that made his tail fall flack against his hind end as he stood there, claws digging into the ground as his muscles tensed. The land in front of him seemed to shift, flashing almost as if the fire before him was erupting. The crackling of flames roared in his ears and he could hardly breathe, his mouth opened, but it felt as if sand had filled it, dry and cracked as he stared at what reminded him of the flames that took his home so long ago. Of what had taken his family so long ago. He wanted to call for his brother, to reach for him but he was frozen, just staring with his maw just slightly opened as his heart raced, trying to say something, anything. But nothing came out as Maddox relived the nightmares that plagued the lands of Lubrusca. Milo

It couldn’t have been more than an hour before Mayerthu returned, a handful of new faces in tow. Quill had spent the time sprucing up his den a bit, namely arranging the foliage within to his liking. Raising a paw to scrub the lingering dirt from his face, he reemerged to greet the newcomers, quicksilver gaze alighting on the she-wolf in the lead– though Ebony pulled her aside before he could say anything. In the brief moments he had been outside, the rain had soaked him as thoroughly as if he’d gone for a swim. Blinking droplets out of his eyes, he glanced over to see a similarly-aged male splashing his way. And hey, who could resist a friendly greeting like that? ”Their brother, huh?” He grinned easily at Milo. ”Yeah, I met them. Cecilia led the tour earlier, and Maddox made quite the crashing entrance after that.” The male wagged his brows at Maddox conspiratorially before returning his attention to Milo. ”The name’s Quill. It’s cool that you grew up here. Is it everything you remember?” He questioned with a tilt of his head. ”Apparently our parents – those are my sisters over there, by the way, Clover and Iris – apparently our parents were in Lubrusca for a while before they had to flee because of some huge fire. Ended up directing us this way when we decided we wanted to make our own way.” Now Milo was a wolf that Quill immediately liked, mostly because the male knew how to hold a conversation. ”How long have I been here? Hmm… maybe four hours now?” He chortled. Just as he was about to return the barrage of questions with a few of his own, though, his eyes caught on a thin trail of smoke in the far-off distance. Then, gaze drifting a little closer to home, he furrowed his brow a bit when he saw Maddox frozen in apparent fear. ”Hey,” He started, sparing a glance for the other wolf’s brother before taking a step closer, ”Hey, you alright there, bud? Milo is right here, uh– do you want me to get Cecilia? Or like, anything else you might need?” He shot a helpless look over his shoulder to reaffirm that the smoke wasn’t some weird trick of his mind. Milo Maddox

Apparently, our parents – those are my sisters over there, by the way, Clover and Iris – apparently our parents were in Lubrusca for a while before they had to flee because of some huge fire. Ended up directing us this way when we decided we wanted to make our own way,” this Quill was also an exceptional conversationalist, to Milo's delight. It was hard to believe that someone else with Lubruscan parents also ended up back here at the same time, but fate seemed to be in a reuniting mood that the floppy-eared male wasn't about to question. They had so much they could talk about. How hard was it to find the place? How did the three siblings manage to stay together so long? Did their parents know his dad? Surely they had to! Milo was balling up his next set of questions, ready to launch it at Quill's face when the other male's attention was stolen away by none other than his own brother. The betrayal! Milo turned to face him, about to jokingly chastise him for stealing away the conversation when he froze. He could see exactly what Quill was concerned about. Maddox stood stiff as a redwood, not to be budged by anything or anyone. Milo could have almost mistaken him as frozen solid in the commons if he hadn't been chatting away with his brother just minutes ago. Trailing his eyes upwards, the ominous snake in the air sent a shiver down his spine. The ghosts of Lubrusca coiled and churned in the distance, ashen forms threatening to draw the siblings to their same fate. Milo sucked in a breath, albeit uncomfortably shaky. The smoke was far away, the scent of it wasn't even in the air yet. The cobra swirled through the air, and for his and his brother's sake, he needed to tame it. He knew what his brother was thinking. Images of the fire, the destruction, and the sounds of screams and the unwavering, crackling fire boomed in his ears with each heartbeat. He could barely hear what Quill said to Maddox, apart from his own name striking a chord in his mind to remind him that he could move. For a wolf who is usually heard before seen, it was strange for Milo to be so quiet as he moved to his brother's side. He nodded to Quill; whether he wanted him to get Cecilia, or just let him know that he had it under control, Milo truly didn't know himself. Heaving another breath of crisp, cool winter air into his lungs, the lanky male finally spoke again, quietly but firmly, "It's far away. We have time if it's coming. We're safe. Maddox," he paused mid-sentence, hoping that his brother hearing his name would help him snap back towards reality as it had done for Milo, "Look around us. We're safe. We're home."Maddox Quill

Ebony became still as Mayerthu presented her findings, sitting back into his haunches quietly. The lower lid of his eye rose over his iris almost like an accident, becoming glossy with a subtle intrigue at Mayerthu’s discussion of “regret.” Although in the past Lubrusca had been a generous refuge for wolves of all strengths and weaknesses, Ebony was careened to induct elders into the ranks for pragmatic reasons, so while once believing he and Mayerthu shared this process of reasoning he was somewhat disgruntled to hear her talk about “regret” from a place of morality, and furthermore to hear her doubt herself so––over something akin to pity, no less. Had he selected the wrong arm for this job?
The language she chose for this report was peculiar. It seemed like a logical choice, but she was wrought with sorrow to imagine his idle death. How those thoughts could coexist inside of a wolf, wreaking such emotional turmoil, was an existential mystery Ebony had still never cracked. Any conflicting thought, even a feeling, had to be precisely weighed with reason, to the best of one’s abilities, and swiftly thwarted upon its conclusion as the weaker thought. It seemed most wolves were incapable of deducing feelings as weak, despite their fleeting and illogical nature. Yet, , though she toiled with regret, Mayerthu had still come to the right conclusion and made the logical choice. Any lingering feelings were just as they were, and they’d fade eventually.
It wouldn’t be right to say he was lost in thought, but he was gone enough in his judgements to open his eyes hard in awakening at Mayerthu’s unexpected question. He considered her position before answering with an unamused expression.
“Hm, that is a reasonable assumption. We do spend a lot of time together,” he pondered while his eyes trailed curiously to Cecilia, and back to Mayerthu with an answer in his eyes. “There will be none. A pairing between you and me would have far greater utility,” Ebony said indifferently while starting up on his feet, though with a relieving appreciation that such an advance would never occur, for fatherhood was a reverie he’d thwarted long ago––a weaker thought. His duty was to the land, not to his blood, and he would never care about another soul more than he cared about his home.
Just then he’d made his way to a rendezvous between Clover, Iris and Akari, which was interrupted by a sight that struck an arrow in Ebony’s heart; his land was in danger, and Ebony’s first response was to investigate. Instinctively, he put his legs forth to seek this information on his own. He’d been alone for so long, and this was how he was raised. It hardly dawned on him that there were a number of capable wolves who may draw enough theories to accurately discern the origin of the threat and handle it accordingly.
“Hey, you alright there, bud,” an unlikely voice asked Maddox, who was frozen at the sight. Ebony knew what fear poisoned him, but was incapable of consoling him. The only respite was securing the pack’s safety. So, Ebony trotted past Maddox without a word, listening in on Milo’s wistful assumption that there was enough time to manage the situation effectively. Perhaps this was true, but there was only one way to be certain.
“Fire that can withstand the wintry rains is no idle foe. We need to learn its source and direction immediately,” he announced, staring off into the dim atmosphere. It was impossible to determine the distance of the smoke, but amid the amplified scents carried by the atmospheric moisture was no indication of a serious vicinity. “Quill, Iris and Clover, at first light we head south. Mayerthu and Cecilia, you will lead Lubrusca in my absence. It is unlikely, but if the smoke draws near enough before I return, you will need to relocate the pack. It would be wise for everyone to rest now.”
Ebony held the deliberate posture of a soldier, but he was equally graceful in his leadership. He was relaxed yet not a strand of hair was out of place. He spoke from a grim wire of a mouth but his voice was thick and cogitable. There was authority in his presence though he did not threaten to demand it, and despite the matter at hand he was unhurried in nature. An odd comfort to many, hopefully to Maddox.

Cecilia was elated to have another brother back home. Something inside her started feeling right. As she watched her two brothers move about the territory she lingered, looking towards Ebony. Previously, she would have moved towards him and greeted him either with a nod of her head or a more physical greeting such as rubbing against his side or a gentle touch with nose to the neck. The memory of his touch brought her both comfort and a sense of peace. Now she hesitates. Cecilia can feel the eyes aimed at both her and Ebony. They were the ones to accept everyone here with open arms, of course everyone would look to them for leadership. Not only that, but also to observe how the two of them acted towards each other and those around them. Cecilia longed to approach the stoic male and for a moment she could feel her face twist. She was unsure of what expression she wore because this was the first time she felt this way, but the expression could only be described as quiet, distraught and longing. For a brief moment they made eye contact and she could only nod a simple greeting, watching as Mayerthru approached him to explain her assessment. Something inside her filled with jealousy that Mayerthru would be the first to speak with him. Using the break in their eye contact as motivation to look away, she focused her attention once more on her brothers. Watching the two of them a hazy memory flicked behind her eyes of the three of them as pups. She remembered how often she would observe her siblings from the side lines, watching them play and rough house before she would eventually get involved. Chuckling to herself at the fondness of the memory, she smiled a whole smile as she gazed at the two lovingly. For once she was unconcerned about who observed her. All she could feel was the happiness that blossomed in her chest at being reunited with family and having the pack commons full and bustling with activity. Finally, she began to move towards them. Her pace was slow as she neared them, taking her time to just observe their interactions with the new pack members. But the air turned thick with unease and as she approached Maddox stood stiff as a board. Following Milo’s gaze, off in the distance was one of Cecilia’s worst recurring nightmares. Her chest tightened with dread, her veins freezing, knees shaking slightly. But seeing the two of them in a similar state she felt a fire burn in her chest to protect them. Last time they were too young to do anything. Now they were capable of a lot more and she would make everyone here safe. Moving into action, she turned away from them and moved towards Ebony. She carried herself with confidence and as she approached, she had no fears of whatever they had been discussing. “ A pairing between you and me would have far greater utility,” Ebony’s voice carried itself to her ears and she stayed her steps for a moment. The dread she had been experiencing overwhelmed her now with a new and even scarier fear. Around her sights and sounds melted away and below her a black hole threatened to consume her. She teetered there, on the edge of breaking. She could feel the inkinesss around her as she began to sink into depths of despair. “ Mayerthu and Cecilia, you will lead Lubrusca in my absence. It is unlikely, but if the smoke draws near enough before I return, you will need to relocate the pack. It would be wise for everyone to rest now.” Ebony’s voice snapped her out of it. His tone is direct and full of authority, no question in what he had to say. At that moment she realized what was about to happen. She was going to slip down a dark slope and she would have become useless to her pack and family. Biting the inside of her cheek she looked down, ashamed of herself for a moment. No! I will not let myself continue like this, I need to step up to be there for everyone, I cannot fail Lubrusca, I cannot fail my brothers, and I cannot fail Ebony. The last thought left her reeling as she made eye contact with him. However, she resolved her feelings to stay behind closed doors for the time being. Whatever feelings they might be. This was no time for emotions, it was time for action and to keep them safe. Her expression was one of stoic determination, a new fire lit behind her gray eyes. “ You can count on me,” she spoke with confidence, giving the ink colored male a brief nod before turning to her brothers. Hoping by the time she arrived Maddox would have come back to them. Either way, she looked to Milo, “ My den is plenty big enough for us 3 to fit inside, let’s go hunker there for a little bit, maybe we can share some stories and get caught up?” she spoke softly, nudging a wet nose into Maddox’s cheek and giving a small lick. She hoped this action would be soothing.

“Fire that can withstand the wintry rains is no idle foe. We need to learn its source and direction immediately,” Clover agreed. Though this may have been her home for a few days, she would do anything to protect it and her siblings. Ebony held himself with confidence, like a true warrior, which Clover admired. Keeping your emotions under control and holding yourself with authority was not something given to everyone. Skills of a true leader.
“Quill, Iris and Clover, at first light we head south. Mayerthu and Cecilia, you will lead Lubrusca in my absence. It is unlikely, but if the smoke draws near enough before I return, you will need to relocate the pack. It would be wise for everyone to rest now.”
The female nodded, "Understood. We can't let this fire destroy our home again." She spoke solely, her eyes instinctively looking for her siblings. She knew they were strong and capable of protecting themselves, but she wasn't sure if she wanted them to go with her to face this unknown threat. They can handle it. She thought, which calmed her down. The trio have been through many dangerous events during their travels, so Clover knew they'd be fine.
She began to trot to the southern borders, her eyes darting to the smoke in the sky every so often. The thought of potentially losing her siblings drilled its way into her mind, but she shook it away. If Quill and Iris followed after her, she'd take a step closer to them, and nuzzle into them warmly, giving each a small lick of affection on the face and smiling. "Please don't do anything stupid when we get to this threat, I care too much for both of you." Her paws paused at the border, and she turned to see the other pack wolves going into the dens. If Ebony was with them, she'd follow him out of the territory.

*Timeskip of 3 days*Several days have passed sense Ebony left with Quil, Iris, and Clover. In those days Cecilia had done her best to support her brothers and welcome in the new members into the pack. When she wasn't communicating with others she stood watch on a hill, eyes set on the smoke in the distance. The smoke didn't change directions but Cecilia never the less worried for her pack mates that were away on investigation. This morning was no different for her. Waking before majority of her pack mates she stood watch as the sun was barely peaking above the horizon. Hearing the movements of her pack mates she went in search of her brothers, checking to see if they were okay or not. If her brothers were awake she would approach them, "would you like to join me in my discussion with Mayerthu this morning?" she invited them to discuss plans with her and the other appointed leader. IF they were asleep she would give them a gentle smile, licking both gently across the forehead before making her way towards Mayerthu would be. If Mayerthu was asleep, she would call into her den to wake the ink colored wolf. "May~" she called, her voice would rise in volume until the other responded to her. If Mayerthu was awake or if she had been asleep and came out, Cecilia would give a nod of her head and spoke softly, "I have some ideas for what we should do today if you care to chat?" she would speak to her, a wag in her tail for the morning greeting. Waiting for Mayerthu to give her permission to speak once she was ready. "I think we should split the pack today, one group to scout our borders and then one in charge of hunting. I can lead the scouting party and you can lead the hunters? Or do you think we should focus our efforts elsewhere?"Milo Maddox Mayerthu Ebony Quill Clover Iris .
