She must have traveled hundreds of miles in her lifetime if she was watching the sun rise above water for the first time. Her feet weren't used to these steep climbs but her body wanted to take her all the way to the cliff's edge just for one long look at the morning's first light. She claimed this view, this feeling. It was all hers. Nobody and nothing could take this moment away from her, try as they might, because in her was an untouchable story writing itself on the horizon.
A small stumble as she stretched her cranium to brace the water-laden zephyr fastened her spirit to her body before she could forget her own mortality. Serana summoned a laugh interlaced with both fear and triumph while steadying herself back onto the flatter portion of the bank's vertex, exhaling a long sigh of gratitude as her stomach met the ground.

Maeve had seen many storms rock these ledges. Each time she came back there was a little less foundation than there was before, but still she came back as every storm's eye gave surety the waters would settle with ease, in time. The weather settled in the fall when the hot summer air didn't marry itself to the eastern winds, but normally a dense fog hung over the water on mornings of this temperature. Though clear skies were usually a good sign, when they came on suddenly, it meant there was a shift in the atmosphere. So, Maeve decided to return to her spot for a calm morning's rest before she'd likely have to leave for shelter by night. What's this? Maeve had never seen another wolf here. The cliffs weren't a welcoming habitat for bigger mammals. A curious eye stroked the stranger's frame, finding a calmness in her stature that Maeve craved for herself. But to share this view seemed impossible. It was so encompassing it seemed almost selfish to impose on somebody else's enjoyment of it. Nervously, Maeve stepped forward. She was more docile than hostile, but she was a little bugged. "I guess my scent trail has eroded," Maeve said ironically, suppressing her minor vexation with the small jest. Peeking over the lupine's brazenly polished coat Maeve watched the sun poke its head above the horizon. The layer of sky just above it blending into a purple-orange haze that dissipated into the remaining darkness that stretched over the west side. Still some stars were visible, but each twinkle was like a gasp of air that left them dimmer and dimmer with each passing second, the reflections in the wind's gentle spray signaling that morning has broken. It felt like they had been traveling for who knew how long. Zuko was unsure. It had been a few weeks since his sister had departed their presence, seeking to go a different direction than he would have wanted to go. Azula was always finicky like that, wanting to do things her way. But Zuko would not argue with her. Instead he simply wished her farewell and safe travels before keeping with Noble and trekking further through the mountains. Nestled above the valley they’d dipped into for just a moment, the young male found himself looking out among the vast rocky slopes, seeing the ocean in the distance and hearing the waves crash against the rocky shores.
He’d never been this close before, but his nanny had told him of these places. Had told him of the rocky cliffs that led to boundless amounts of water. It was no surprise that she was right, there was in fact an endless amount of water, not even Zuko felt the urge to swim across as he knew there would be no shore on the horizon waiting for him. But he knew that some would dare do so and find land on the other end, even if that seemed like a far off myth and fairy tale. Orange eyes glanced towards his companion as he stopped for a moment to take in the scenery, and also scent for anyone that was nearby. The cold fall breeze washed a couple scents over his nostrils and they flared, wanting to track where they were coming from and see if it were a threat to either him or his companion.
He did not speak, finding that he wouldn’t need to for the moment as he headed in the direction of the scents, not wanting to give himself away should they be hostile. Zuko wanted nothing more than to make sure that he and his would be safe, and that they could pass through safely without feeling like they were trespassing. Their odd scents would already alarm anyone that caught it, and he wanted to make sure he knew where they were before they came charging at them, if they would. In the short time that he had been alive, he’d already seen some of the visceral reactions others had to his scent and he didn’t feel like dealing with that today, flicking his ears he trekked forward, catching sight of the two wolves he had scented.
It seemed that they were locked in conversation, and he could not tell if they were friendly with each other, or hostile. Whether or not that was the case, he stayed where he was, looking towards Noble to see what his companion would decide to do in this situation. Zuko was never good with social interactions, and often left that up to the other to initiate if he wanted to.

Serana was in a state of luxury, her mind taking time to tidy itself as her body, upholstered by the wind, went into a sleep-like trance. She had traveled far to achieve this feeling, what crime it was for someone to take it away. Serana was slow to transport herself back into consciousness in time to process the rogue's quip. "I guess my scent trail has eroded," she said, looking into the sunrise like it was an old friend. Serana peeked over her shoulder to see a multi-colored lupine with a look she couldn't discern as either friendly or unfriendly, but her choice of words spoke to her willingness to keep the situation somewhat pleasant. Serana could work with that. "Why, I'm so sorry for trespassing," she quipped back, pulling her side up off of the sand but keeping her belly planted. With a shy smile growing across her cheeks, Serana continued, transferring her gaze back to the water. "It's unfortunate there's no room on this enormous cliff for you to join me." She leaned to the side, shifting her weight to beckon the rogue over, but she caught onto a peculiar smell coming from the inland side, inclining Serana to stand on all fours. She wasn't expecting a crowd., but her tail wagged nervously at the prospect of making a couple friends. It had been so long since she had company. "Oh, did you bring some friends?" Serana asked, looking over her shoulder to see two young, wolflike males. What an interesting conversation this would make! Maeve Zuko @noble

Zuko and Noble had been traveling for quite a while. At least a few weeks, he did know that. That was when Zuko's sister had parted ways with them, and both wolves wished her well and went back on their way.So far, the duo had traveled through a very seemingly never-ending forest, and a very dry desert. 'Oh, what I would do to not go through that again.' Noble thought, shuddering a little. Now they had arrived at some sort of cliff overhanging a vast body of water. Multiple times on their journey, Zuko had looked to Noble for either his suggestion or guidance. It was safe to say that he was the follower of their little traveling group. Noble didn't mind though, he liked being able to help others, even if it was only for little things. It made him feel more accomplished. Feeling Zuko's eyes on him, Noble snapped out of it, looking to him. He looked a little uncomfortable, which was to be expected. The wolves he had spotted a few tail lengths away were the first ones either of them had seen in a long time. Since Zuko's sister had left to be exact. If that even counted.Whispering lowly into Zuko's ear where the other wolves couldn't hear, "Do you want to talk for a little while with them? If you end up wanting to leave at any time, we'll go." Noble wouldn't ever force anyone to do anything they didn't want to do, that wasn't how he worked. He nodded in recognition of the two other wolves while waiting fro Zuko's response.Serana Maeve Zuko

To be honest, Harriet had absolutely no idea where she was going. It was still so weird, being alone. It felt like only yesterday she had still been playing with her littermates. And now, well now she was very lost. Or was she lost? Could she get lost if she had nowhere to go? Well apparently she could get lost, because it looked like she reached the end of the world. But she didn't exactly expect the edge of the world to be so.... "So pretty!"Before she knew it, Harriet was rushing towards the edge of the cliff, her two-colored eyes aglow with wonder. There were other wolves here, too. Did that mean this was where she was supposed to go? She still didn't know, she didn't think she would ever know. But for now, she would enjoy the view, turning to the wolves around her. "Isn't it so pretty? I love it here!"

Maeve wasn't expecting anything from the rogue in particular, but she was not expecting a great updraft of effortless sarcasm to penetrate her interest. She could laugh if she was certain it was a jest, but the slick sass in the lupine stranger's voice was enough to convince her it wasn't, that is, until a timid, sweet smile shone through her cheeky ruse. Maeve naturally formed one of her own, her brown-speckled flag waving behind her with increasing enthusiasm as the she-wolf beckoned her with a roll off her flank. "Oh, did you bring some friends?" What? Maeve paused, unwittingly sneering at the expression on the rogue's face only to realize she wasn't looking directly at her. It was a haunting feeling when eyes seemed to glare straight past you at something you didn't know was there. Maeve lifted her paw off the ground, relieving the muscles of her neck enough for it to turn 180 degrees. She observed two pups accompanying each other and another young female runn ing straight fOR THE CLIFFS!"Careful, honey!" Maeve's voice spanned an octave while the angle of her nose followed the figure rushing past her. Adrenaline pumped through her veins as quick as it did when her own life was in danger, only its aim was to infiltrate her body with enough strength to yank the yearling at her scruff if she needed to. The snap of her jaw barely missed the moon coat, and Maeve closed her eyes to avoid to the image of the girl's body hurling itself off the edge. "Isn't it so pretty? I love it here!" A tiny, unfazed voice chirped. Maeve's eyes peeled open slowly, the curl of her body that formed in a wince of fear gently unfolding. Thank goodness. Maeve came forward. She needed to check this girl out, you know, make sure all the pieces were in tact. In her mind. All she found, though, was a multicolored set of eyes accompanied by an unfamiliar shape to her face. It was only by standing this close to her she realized she was all there, she just wasn't all wolf. "What a pretty one you are. Are those your friends?" Maeve asked, gesturing to the boys chatting a little further downhill. Serana , Zuko ,@noble , Harriet ,

Another wolf showed up, and she was seemingly very excited. Her joyfulness almost got her yote off the cliff edge by none other than herself. Slightly startled, Noble stood, ready to dart over and grab her. 'Okay, so she's a ray of sunshine, but she isn't very bright. What does that make her? Good company, but not a good survivalist.' Upon one of the older she-wolves catching the younger one, he got a closer look at her, seeing as now, she wasn't just a blur of fur. She was in fact not just a wolf, he observed. Maybe she was like them, a wolf dog? Again a similar question pooped up, "Are those your friends?" with yet another gesture towards Noble and Zuko. Speaking for a moment, "Uh, no. It's just us two." Gesturing to Zuko and back to himself with his tail. 'Hopefully that will clear things up a little.' After things settled down a little, Noble sat back down, heart still beating wildly in his chest at the thought of the wolf just running right off the edge. Taking time to focus on his breathing, he looked around. The she-wolf wasn't wrong, it was very pretty. The sky's color was a gradient of magnificent pastel and bright pinks, purples, and oranges. The clouds looked like someone had painted bunches of fluffy something everywhere. They dotted the sky here and there only adding to the already beautiful scenery.

| Harriet froze, as all the wolves seemed ready to lunge at her. What had she done wrong? She was only enjoying the view!
But her worry was for not, as one of the wolves came up, and they even gave her a compliment! "Thank you! My mama always said that too! But she said that it was time for me to learn to take care of myself, so here I am! Oh, and you're pretty too!"
Harriet smiled, wagging her tail. But suddenly she realized she forgot to introduce herself. "Oh! My names Harriet by the way. But you can call me Hare! My mama says it's because I'm fast just like a hare! And we may not be friends yet, but we totally can be! I've never met a wolf outside of my family before! Eeee this is so exciting!"
Squealing, Harriet turned around, facing the cliff again, suddenly realizing there was water below. "Hey! I see water! Do you think we can jump in? Oh, I bet I can make it from here! Eee this will be fun! Don't you guys think?" |

Serana realized the answer to her question as soon as she asked it. The she-wolf's expression was confused, and as Serana gauged the younger males they didn't appear to recognize her. Another wolf approached the cliffs. She came out of nowhere and and nearly threw herself off of it. Instinctively Serana rushed forward, and her new friend had the same idea, both of them reaching out towards the white wolf to avoid a catastrophe. The first rogue she met––goodness, she wished she could put a name to her beguiling features––had proven herself more caring of strangers than she had initially let off. Serana caught herself smiling when she saw the relieved look on her face, knowing the almost wolf avoided an almost situation. "Oh! My names Harriet by the way." "I'm Serana. Your name suits you," she yipped pleasantly. "Hey! I see water! Do you think we can jump in? Oh, I bet I can make it from here! Eee this will be fun! Don't you guys think?" "I... don't think so." Serana mumbled, not wanting to have another scare. A trip to the beach didn't sound like a bad idea, though. Maybe by sunset. "But..." she began with cheerful teasing in her voice as she walked towards the edge of the cliff and picked up a pebble. She stationed her legs, securing her body, before chucking the pebble into the water. It took about five seconds for the plop to sound when the rock landed in the water. "You may be fast, but do you think you can throw further than me?"

In her heart, she knew that she had to leave the coastline but it didn’t make the trek any easier. Saffron had spent a good portion of the morning carefully climbing up the cliffside. She woke up before the sun was even in the sky to start her trip. She made sure that she did all of the things she would miss before heading up to the Rocklands and behind. She had never really left the coastline and she had no idea what to expect. So before Saffron left she filled up on a few fish and crabs to give her energy. Half of her dreaded thinking of moving to a place without the comforts that reminded her of home- but she knew that in this journey- it was best to leave everything behind and start fresh. The rocks were hard on her paw pads and after a few hours into her journey, she started to wince at each harsh step. She spent most of her life on the beach and her paws were only used to soft sand. Saffron was feeling tired but once she started to see the Rocklands in view the she-wolf’s tail started to wag. By the time she had made it to the Rocklands, it was already well into the day. The sun was now in the sky and from below she could hear the seagulls cawing and screeching. Saffron looked out at the ocean with bittersweet longing. She’ll miss the ocean like no other, and maybe in time she’ll come back to visit but for now, she knew she had to go. A part of her wondered if her parents made the same journey as she is now. The thought made her gain a bit of a boost- thinking about how it an odd sense, she was following in their paw steps. She walked a bit along the cliffside and then paused when she noticed a group of wolves looking out at the water. Saffron watched for a moment and looked at the wolves in question. She was far enough away that she couldn’t hear them talk but by their body language and happy yips- it sounded like they were, having a friendly conversation. What was more interesting is that they all smelled differently from each other. They must not be in the same pack then. A group of rogues maybe? Curious to find out more, she starts to head over. Maeve was planning a relaxing morning, a taste of salt as she watched the sunrise before a long nap, not babysitting. Voicing her opinion was never something Maeve shied away from unless she knew it would do more harm than good. To tell the yearling she was a lunatic would've made this morning a lot worse for everybody here. Serana, her name finally revealed, had an admirable sort of will, the kind that could sprout a solution out of compassion. Maeve stared at her curiously and a warm light began pulsing in her chest.
Another female approached, closer to her and Serana's age than the other three, thankfully. Her saunter was casual though she did seem to be surveying the group of rogues with intent. Maeve looked to Serana, expecting her and her warm personality to make an introduction, but she was busy skipping rocks. "Hello," Maeve called awkwardly to the rogue, whose distance was closing in. Shyly, Maeve turned away before a conversation could ensue. She had barely adjusted to the rogues here and knew she'd have a hard time adjusting to another. So, she walked up to the cliff's edge and picked up a pebble. She tried to copy Serana's maneuver but she opened her maw too early, the pebble barely making distance, bouncing off the cliff face and swirling into the water with a sad plot.

Noble was always considerate, Zuko had seen that in the way he always made sure that he was comfortable with a situation. It was something Zuko always appreciated. With the low whisper from Noble, he just gave the brute a nod. They could socialize. It was what their parents would have wanted for them after all. Even though Zuko was not the best at socializing, he knew that Noble liked talking with others. It got pretty lonely no matter if you were traveling with another wolf or not. “We can talk with them,” He said softly to Noble, a quieter note to his voice than the usual gruff nature he took with others. Before he could truly take in the strangers they had walked up on, one came zipping forward, almost tumbling off of the cliff that they were on. Zuko’s heart lurched as he watched her, but it seemed that someone was already there for her as they kept her from falling off the cliff. As they were addressed, Zuko’s ears tilted forward ever slightly, tail hanging in the air loosely as he stared at the others. If they were to make a comment about their odd smell or appearance, Zuko would be quick to snap at them. While he didn’t like when others made fun of him, he could handle it. But if someone were to make fun of Noble, Zuko would have their head. Or in this case, he’d push them from the cliffs. No one talked about his one and only friend in any condescending manner. He noticed that Noble was a bit shaken by the she-wolf almost tumbling off the cliff and so he rested his tail on the other’s back. Zuko was thoughtful when he wanted to be, but it was only with wolves he knew for a long time. “You okay?” He asked as he stared towards Noble, hoping that his friend was okay. Zuko wasn’t one to really mingle with others and so he would stick by Noble’s side, watching as yet another wolf joined the little band of rogues that was gathering. He wondered if maybe he and Noble should move on, there was quite a lot of commotion, but he would keep his attention on Noble and no one else as he waited for the other brute to answer his question. He had to make sure that Noble was okay before suggesting they move. Maeve @noble Harriet @saffron Serana

An answer was given from Zuko, and it seemed through his words that he was alright with socializing, but Noble could sense his still hesitant vibe. He probably had only said that to make him feel better, though there was no need to do that. As more wolves kept arriving, Noble pondered with the idea of leaving before it became too overwhelming for either of them. Having them both too uncomfortable to attempt to get away wouldn’t be a good thing. ‘I suppose we can try this for a minute, though if another wolf comes along we may just find another place a little less crowded.’Zuko asked if he was alright, which told Noble that his friend had noticed the spike in his heartbeat at the very least. Though there was a glint in his eyes that told him his friend was thinking about something relatively harsh. Following his gaze he scanned the area Zuko was looking at. ‘Oh, dang. Let’s not.’ Noticing his friend had his eyes on a few of the wolves in front of them, which were not too far from the cliff side. Returning the comforting gesture, Noble brushed his tail slightly across his haunches, trailing up his flank a little bit as he pressed closer to him for the moment. “How about we don’t push anyone off a cliff today?” He chimed to his companion in a low tone, so that the other wolves around wouldn’t be able to catch what he’d said. His words weren’t entirely serious, he had said them lightheartedly, but also in a way that Zuko would be able to know he had no plans of watching anyone die today. Moving slightly closer to the other wolves, though not to the edge of the cliff, Noble spoke again, still anxiety ridden on behalf of the other wolves who looked like they could tip over the rim at any given moment. “Hey, I saw a few rabbit burrows further over that way. We could see who could fish out some of them from hiding…” Gesturing his tail behind him and Zuko towards where the grass grew in thicker, taller patches, he made eye contact with Zuko for a second. That was his way of reminding him that they didn’t have to stay if he didn’t want to be here. It was also his only idea that could potentially get the rest of the wolves away from the ledge. It wouldn’t have bothered him if it didn’t look so fragile. With the amount of wolves that were standing so close to the end, it surely wouldn’t be too long before the rock gave way. Saffron looked over at the she-wolf who greeted her and nodded her head, “Hi,” she said in a friendly but tired voice. She looked to be roughly Saffron’s age. Saffron looked around and noticed that a lot of the other wolves were a bit younger. Despite that, however, she was roughly the same height as the younger wolves anyways. The adrenaline from her cliff trek was waning and she started feeling a bit tired. She looked down at the cliffside toward the beach. She remembered all of the times that loose rocks and dirt would fall onto the beach from the cliff above. She moved away from the cliffside by a few feet and sat down- panting lightly. She then watched as the she-wolf tried to throw a pebble off the cliffside. Saffron wagged her tail a little at the playful gesture and wondered what such a big group of rogues was doing in the Rocklands anyways. Were they all traveling like her? She had never seen these wolves before, so they must have come somewhere inland. Maybe somewhere with food? Her ears perked up once, overhearing one of the rogues mention rabbit burrows nearby. Despite eating before she left- she was starting to get hungry. She didn’t want to feel like she was intruding on these new wolves, but her hunger was now outweighing her need to feel polite. Feeling a bit brave, she stands up, “If you need an extra pair of paws- I would love to join your rabbit hunt,” she said affably. Serana , Maeve , Zuko ,@noble , Harriet
