Rory trotted through the undergrowth leisurely, her paws thrumming on the forest floor rhythmically. Her very pregnant belly swaying slightly with each step. She wondered how many pups she would have, and how healthy they would be when they were born. She hoped the rest of her pregnancy went well, though it probably wouldn’t be too long before the pups decided they wanted to enter the world. She hadn’t had time to dig a den or start nesting, all she could do to help her pups right now was to catch something to eat. If the circumstances where different she would’ve been able to have the support of a pack, and wouldn’t have to worry about her unborn pups starving. No matter the circumstances, Rory traveled on until she reached a small body of water surrounded by tree debris and some large logs. Crouching as low as she could without her belly brushing the grass, she waited. It only took a few moments for the fish to start swimming near where she was perched. She was patient, watching the fish swim in their odd weaving patterns. She just sat there for a little while, observing the fish and the calming sound of the slight breeze making the water ripple. A few fish swam closer to where Rory was, and she quickly shot her paw out, scooping the fish out of the water onto land. It flopped a few times trying to get back in the water, but she bit into the fish, which stopped moving shortly afterwards. Rory didn’t mind the odd taste of the fish compared to other small prey, she found out as she ate her freshly caught meal. It didn’t take her very long to devour the fish. She didn’t eat the bones, she gnawed at them for a bit before digging a small hole and discarding them there, making sure to cover the hole back up. A distant branch crunched in the area and she stilled, ear alert, sniffing the air. ’Bear.’ The footsteps got closer, until they stopped a few meters short of Rory. The bear had most definitely seen her. She didn’t look at the large mammal, though she did get lower to the ground, assuming a submissive position that didn’t flash her stomach to the bear. Her best interest in mind was her pups, in no way would she ever purposefully put them in harm's way. The bear roared loudly in her direction, its shadow loomed taller, so she assumed that it was on its hind legs. Waiting for the bear to get back on all four paws, she stayed still, not wanting to anger the bear anymore than she had already. After a few minutes of the bear just watching her, it seemed to deem she wasn’t that much of a threat and turned it’s back to her. Rory took that chance to turn and dash away from the area as quickly as possible. Nevermore

It had been a long day of walking, of searching for what she could not name. So seeing this area, so full of life, Aura chose to allow herself to rest. Maybe here she would find fulfillment. Perhaps she would be content. Living in an area where she seemed to have everything, it would be easy to live here. There was plenty of prey, and from what she could smell, no pack had claimed the area, oddly enough. She couldn't fully understand why a pack would not want to live here, but she would reap the benefits herself. That was, until she heard the roar of a bear. The predators was probably the reason that no pack had settled. Of course. There just couldn't be a perfect territory. Now she had to deal with other predators. She would probably have to fight for her right to eat. Yeah, no, she was not going to do that. She would have left, but she saw a wolf dart past her, presumably away from the bear. It didn't sound as though it was giving chase, so at least she could assume she was safe here, for now. But what of the other wolf? Curiosity overtook her, and she soon found herself following the wolf. "Hey, are you okay? Did the bear hurt you?"She looked relatively unscathed, no wounds that Aura could see, but one thing became scathingly clear. The wolf was pregnant. Rory

Still running away from the bear, Rory didn't hear another wolf approach her. She only knew that someone was nearby because she had heard their voice. Slowing down her pace, answering the questions she was asked. "Yeah, I'm alright," she panted, "No, I think it only wanted whatever was left of the fish I caught." She stopped walking and sat across from the she-wolf, catching her breath. It really couldn't be too good to run this late into a pregnancy. While she was sitting there regaining her energy, she stayed alert, her ears listening to all of the nearby sounds. After a few minutes she looked at the brown wolf across from her, "How are you doing? My name's Rory by the way." She wasn't exactly sure if the newcomer was to be trusted just yet, though she had seemed nice so far. Aura

The wolf said she was alright, but she didn't seem too well. Was it really good for her to be running like that? She looked so out of breath, and it couldn't have even been that far of a run, judging from how close the bear had seemed. She was clearly heavily pregnant. Aura couldn't say how far along she was, but by how much she was showing, and the state she was in now, she was in no shape to be in danger. She was lucky that the fish was all the bear wanted. At least the wolf had finally sat down, and so Aura calmed down a little bit. "I am doing well. My name's Aura. Nice to meet you, Rory."Rory seemed to be looking out for more danger, and Aura couldn't say she really blamed her. Her fur was still on end after hearing that roar, but at the same time, she still felt fairly safe. If the bear was going to follow Rory, it would have already, and any other animal surely would have fled at the sound. Still, Aura also wasn't looking out for unborn pups like Rory was. If danger came, she could, and would, run. Rory looked like she could go into labor at any moment, though. "If you don't mind me asking, when are you due?"

As she sat there, resting, the conversation had continued. The she-wolf's name was Aura, 'A pretty name, rolls of the tongue.' She thought. Then Aura had asked when she was due. In all honesty Rory couldn't remember when she was to be due, the pregnancy brain most likely to blame for that. "Any day now, I hope. It's getting pretty tough carrying these guys around. It's nice to meet you too, Aura" She laughed. The pups really should be due any day now, if they waited too long, there might be complications. She didn't want that at all, for herself or her pups. She hoped at least one pup would be a girl, but would be just fine with boys. She just wanted for her pups to live long, happy lives. Rory laid down, still a bit exhausted. She closed her eyes, relaxing, though not asleep. Birds were chirping around, which made Rory feel a little at ease. That bear really wrecked her nerves, consequently she wouldn't be able to settle down much more until she left the area all together. Aura

Any day now. She was due any day now. Why was this wolf not in a den? Why was she out in a forest that, apparently, seemed to be filled with bears? It wasn't safe here! But looking at Rory, lying down, she knew she couldn't go anywhere else. Not right now. She was exhausted as it was. The poor thing. There had to be something she was missing. She didn't speak like a mother dreading the coming of her children. She would love those pups. Whatever the reason for her being in the open, Aura didn't think the mother really had a choice. Why was Aura getting so involved? She could easily get out on her own. She didn't know this wolf. But she knew her name. She could put a name to a face. She knew she was a mother. And she knew she couldn't fend for herself, not right now. If Aura left Rory now, she would never live it down. Just make sure the wolf was okay, that was all she had to do. Make sure Rory would be okay, and then she could leave. Lying down, she watched the dark wolf close her eyes. Though her still heavy breathing told Aura she was still awake. "I am sure those pups will be lucky to have you as a mother."

Dragging her brother along her weekly escapades, testing how much further out from the Somnus borders she could go without drawing his overrated concern, with the excuse of scavenging for medicinal plants to add to her vast mental encyclopedia, Nevermore had found herself on this particular day in the most unexpected of situations. While dallying just beyond the Somnus border, weaving between trees so she could scratch up against them, she carried with her the kind of exuberant smile that simply couldn't be overlooked. Even the dullest of characters could find their inner passions just by looking into her jaunty expression. From what she knew, her many-hued optics were mesmerizing and had a certain pull to them. One of her secret reasons for going on these adventures was the chance they'd pull in someone new. A princess running away from her dull life finds Nevermore in the woods, their chromatic eyes like a shining beacon in the cold, unnerving fall of night. She presents to her a symbol of her affections, a tulip, to which she replies "Oh, Nevermore, I just can't imagine my life without you." They gallop back towards the Somnus sunset so Nevermore can introduce her princess and publicly declare their undying love. And they all lived happily... evermore. In the midst of her daydream Nevermore's pace came to a near halt. To the east, just yards away, was a she-wolf. A pregnant one, and based on her scent profile which Nevermore was carefully recording as she slid towards her in slow-motion, she was about ready to burst. Not of any concern on a typical day, but as mentioned, today was not that. To the northeast was a smell closing its distance too quickly for comfort, and more quickly than any wolf as pregnant as that one would be able to outrun. It was a test of Nevermore's virtue, because she was not permitted to bring wolves back to the territory, but surely she could not leave a mother die. "El," she said in the tone he knew meant she'd found something of apprehension with her pristine sense of direction. She didn't have time to explain to him what needed to happen, only to alert the others. She barked in their general direction. At this point, she would guess she was only feet away from them. "Hello ladies. Miss, that bear is on its way, and" she dipped her nose into the air once more to confirm her suspicions, "and so are your pups." Nevermore's guess, it smells that fishy trail she's been leaving behind. It's all over her paws, which have marked her path. "My brother is going to escort you across our borders. Follow my lead, stay quick and stay calm. The bear wont cross our borders, but we need to get there first." At this point, she was already walking back west, and she didn't really care if the other wolf was following or not. Perhaps she was her doula, in which case she still wouldn't be needed, as Nevermore was a fine salutary in her own right. Regardless, speculation wasn't her priority. No time to waste! Exit?

Another wolf had approached, and Aura angled her ears, listening for the bear. She thought it would leave them alone! She didn't even think about the fish smell. She had a choice to make then. She didn't want to go with a pack. She could run, right then and there. The pack could take care of the mother wolf. Rory would be just find, surely. Now she needed to take care of herself, make sure she didn't get killed. But Rory was also exhausted. She didn't know if she could stand on her own. And the pack wolf was already leaving. Curses. Standing up, she began to nose Rory to her paws. "Come on, we've gotta go. Lean on me."
And with that, Aura followed the pack wolf, keeping her ears angled to make sure the bear wasn't close. -Exit- Rory Nevermore

Rory nodded slightly in agreement and thanks in response to Aura’s comment, and not shortly afterwards there was a new wolf that had come up to them. She had spoke something more about the bear, which startled Rory a bit once more. Before then announcing that her pups were on the way, telling her that she’d need to go with her and her brother into their packlands and quickly. The she-wolf wasn’t quite sure she could go quickly per se, but she could try. Aura nudged her side and helped her to her feet for which she was grateful, quietly thanking her. They hadn’t known each other very long, but Aura seemed nice, and didn’t seem bothered by helping her. Whilst using Aura to support some of her weight, she followed the pack wolf hoping that they would get to their land before the bear got to them. - Exit Aura , Nevermore

Muddy paws struck the earth quietly as the brute traveled, a beautiful sunset casting bright rays across the orange and red treetops amidst this uneventful fall day. Circling the many lakes, Aaravos was scouting out the available resources here, specifically any rare herbs he may find useful if he was to linger here for a while, and usually water sources were plentiful with different foliage. After a while, the male finally stopped and released a drawn out breath, freezing momentarily as an owl hooted overhead. The forest wasn't necessarily quiet; crickets chirped all around him, a soft breeze brushed through the grass and leaves, and the occasional fox yapped in the background, but to him it was eerily silent. It was over a year ago now, but he still couldn't get over the tussling and chatter from his 6 other siblings once upon a time. Or even the blissful hums of his partner when they traveled together. It was rather strange being alone, and a little too peaceful for his liking.
Aaravos had concluded a few weeks ago that he would attempt to join a new pack, a family that he could help protect and serve once again, but he wanted to learn more information about the neighboring packs in this area from fellow rogues before making a final decision. As always, he remained cautions and strategic with his new ideas before solidifying them into action. Until then, here and now he would make himself at home for a while. Aaravos began moving once again, white eyes searching through the darkness for a good hideout spot to nest in for the night. A little ways away from the nearest lake lay a fallen tree trunk, hidden slightly by tall grass and weeds. As he came to inspect closer, the wolf noticed a little crevice dug underneath the log. It stunk of coyote, but it seemed the animal was long gone by a few days at least, and the chances of a coyote challenging a wolf as large as him for this measly hole was slim. The brute slowly crept into the burrow, inspecting it further and making sure it would fit his body before exiting. Yes, this would do.
After a short stroll in the area as the suns light began to fade behind the mountains, Aaravos returned with a mouthful of soft bedding that he had gathered. He gingerly placed it around the bottom of the burrow, and took the time to arrange it just right before finally settling down. He wasn't very tired, but he knew nightfall would encourage some other predators to come out and catch their meals, and he wasn't in the mood to compete or cross paths with any of them. Bright hues peered curiously out of the burrows entrance, gazing intently at the stars as they became apparent in the almost completely clear sky. With grief, he pondered over the idea that maybe his fallen lover was up there somewhere, gazing right back down at him. Eventually the brute laid his head upon his paws, mind wandering for a while until his eyes became heavy and he fell into a deep slumber.
Notes: Anyone welcome to join! :3

"No! Get down! The cougar will spot you," Daem said in an animated whisper-voice, dramatically ducking his body behind a thick patch of grass. He poked his head out slowly, looking side to side a few times. "Coast is clear." He said, this time in a deeper, more confident voice. He rolled out of the bush, his small body picking up mud and leaves as he did, but it made no difference to his blotchy red coat. "Wait! Get back, get back!" Daem shouted, rushing back to the bush but tripping over himself before he could make it. "IT GOT ME!" He cried, gasping for air. He stood back up on all fours and took on a new persona, that of Thorin. "BROTHER, NOOOOO!" He dramatically screamed, backing away in fake tears while sobbing obnoxiously. Oof-Daem felt a crunch underneath his back paw and a warm breath creeping at him. He turned around, shocked to see a rogue burrowed inside a small makeshift den. An awkward, humble smile poked his cheeks. "Oh, my bad! I didn't see you there. Did you... see me... um, playing make believe..." Daem spent a lot of time playing in his imagination, reenacting memories from his and Thorin's many adventures. It kept his friend alive, and his own spirit well, but it wasn't something he was proud of others seeing, as it was childish and unorthodox. Aaravos

The brute's slumber was interrupted by the loud shouting of someone nearby, jostling him awake abruptly. Aaravos flinched at the obnoxiously dramatic sound, pinning his ear's back in annoyance. He jutted his nose into the air slowly, sniffing to identify this imposter. It was another male, it seemed, a bit older than himself. Aaravos cocked a single brow as the rogue came into view, watching curiously as he fell to the ground, mimicking an attack from a non-existent predator, and then hopping up as if he were a different wolf and crying out for his 'fallen' comrade. What the hell? Was he playing with an imaginary friend? The wolf lowered his head back down into the soft bedding, unamused by this crazy rogue and his acting. Perhaps if he stayed quiet he wouldn't notice him, and he would be saved of an awkward introduction. Too late. The older male backed into his space, nearly tripping into his burrow in the process. He immediately shot around to face him, obvious bewilderment and guilt painted across his face. " Oh, my bad! I didn't see you there," he began, a humble smile gracing his lips. Obviously he was too preoccupied in his game to pay attention to his surroundings. " Did you... see me... um, playing make believe...?" Yes, that was the word for his odd behavior. Aaravos again cocked a brow in confusion, studying the males face before deciding to emerge from his den. He stood proudly, his tail held straight up in a dominant posture as he loomed over the other. While older, this male was more that a foot smaller than him, and much tinier overall. Aaravos cleared his throat before he began, " Unfortunately for me, my sleep was rudely interrupted by your.. 'make-believe'. " He looked around for a moment, half expecting another wolf to appear out of the blue. This rogue was not a threat, and he couldn't help but soften his tone a little in sympathy. " Is this what other wolves do with their free time? If so, I certainly missed the memo," the brute allowed a soft chuckle to exit his lips at the sarcastic joke, allowing his dominant posture to settle into something more friendly. Daem

A briefing of what went on:
Vesp comes across a group of five spike elk, one of them charges. He evades the charge once, but the elk is persistent and goes after him again, this time injuring him. He sustained an injury to the neck from the spike elk’s antlers which pierced and damaged his vocal cords. He now does not speak much as doing do causes him great pain as his vocal cords strain heavily. __________________
As the large wolf trod through the water of a creek, water splashed and sloshed about as their paws slung water at every step forwards. The air was cold and crisp, though the water was colder. It was beginning to be that time of year again, right after the leaves of the deciduous trees shed and fell to the ground, it would be winter once more. Fall was probably Vesper’s favorite season, the leaves falling, leaving the ground covered in pretty oranges and yellows for a short time before there would come the drops in temperature and soon to follow it, snow. Though the cold part wasn’t the best, the thought of snow brought a smile to his face. It reminded him of the time when he would play with his pack mates, making paths in the semi-frozen water to have trench fights. Those times were some of the best that he could remember before the plague of natural disasters hit his birth pack. It had been a couple of years since they had seen any of the survivors of those disasters, a couple of years since the remaining wolves had split off and went to go make and discover lives of their own. Vesper couldn’t even deny it in the slightest, they missed having the company of the others, but it was a good thing that they had all become independent enough to make the choice to start their own chapters. Stepping over a fallen tree, he smelled the scent of bear, though it was faint and long gone by now. Following the flow of the creek that provided him a good rest of refreshingly cold water to drink, it wasn’t long before Vesper caught the scent of something else. ‘It’s elk,' they thought, now slowing down to a walk. Upon further inspection it was a small group of spike elk. Vesp could spot only five as they slowed down ever more to stop and assess the situation. One of the elk was noticeably older than the others, though they all looked at the tall wolf with skeptical, widened beady eyes. Woofing a warning of sorts to the elk in hopes that they would scatter away from where he was heading, he waited for the reaction of the hooved animals. Apparently, the elk didn’t take kindly to Vesper's attempt at scaring them away, as the older of the bunch charged at him. Not having much time to go from stillness to sprinting out of the way of the now oncoming aggravated elk, they circled back to the fallen tree that they had just passed. Weaving themselves in and out before crawling under the bit of the tree that was inclined in a way that they could smush themselves in the crevice. Hearing the elk’s hoofsteps slow down, and stop, Vesper looked out from his hiding spot finding that the antlered elk was nowhere in his line of sight. Slowly crawling out from under the tree while still actively listening for signs of the elk’s return. After a few moments of nothingness, he headed quietly and quickly back to the creekside which he followed downstream once more. In a blur of color, Vesper had no time to react as the spike elk came out of nowhere and charged at him straight on once more. Face to face with the ungulate that had its head down, giving a very clear view of its still growing antlers. In a flash, Vesper felt great pain as the elk gored his neck, missing his throat, but hitting his vocal cords. As the elk pulled away and ran off towards where Vesper could only guess was the direction the rest of the group gathered, they're vision started dimming. The blood loss was taking effect, and doing so quickly. Due to the very damaged vocal cords, they were unable to let out any kind of call for help. Now laying in the grass by the creekside, all Vesper could do was try to hold on to the little bit of blurred vision he could before he passed out, hoping that someone had heard the commotion and would come to his assistance. As he blinked quickly trying to stay at least a little conscious through the great pain he was suffering, Vesper would only blink once more before he succumbed to the darkness with a final thought, ‘Someone, please. Help.’Aaravos Daem

8 weeks had passed since Aura left Somnus territory, although she hadn't gone very far. Funny enough, she had gone exactly to the place she had come from. She couldn't necessarily say why. Maybe she just wasn't finished here. Not that she had known what called her here in the first place. She had no reason to be here when she met Rory. And she had no reason now. She just was. And maybe she should stop coming to this place. She could hear what sounded like a pup playing, although she couldn't see the pup through the trees. More alarming was the smell of blood, as she watched a herd of spike elk prance off in the other direction. They didn't seem to be in too much of a hurry, and the smell of bear was nowhere near as present as it had been 8 weeks ago. So where was the-? Oh. Well then, it seemed the elk left a present for her to find. A wolf was bleeding from his neck, and Aura let out a sigh. The wolf was unconscious, they would bleed out if she just left. Guess she had to play the hero. Again. She clawed some moss from one of the trees, dipping it in the creek and pressing it into the wound the wolf held, before lifting them onto her back. First Rory, now this wolf. Why did she get in these situations? At least she knew where to go this time. -Exit to Somnus Common Grounds- 249 words, @vesper ★ faiYou’re terrified to look down cause if you dare, you’ll see the glare of everyone you burned just to get there.

Accompanying every bear-like tramp that printed the wet forest soil was an equally gruff breath from the morbid brother of the pack. His lungs swelled deep and slow as he took in the precious, savory flavor of fresh blood into his nose. He was practically salivating when it delicately though conspicuously knocked his head around in agreement. "Hah, smells like Somnus," he joked hungrily, mucus dripping from his snout with a penetrating glare in Uriel's direction, silently asking for permission to pursue his unusual taste. But the feeling went almost as quickly as it came, and when he finally made his way through the dense shrubbery all that was left was a red stain in the ground. It would have been worth the investigation if there wasn't something better, something fresher yet, lingering just beyond this dark clearing. The chatter of a vibrant voice and its accompanied chuckling was a promise to Azrael. Upon sauntering into the open, rocky waterscape Azrael let out a strained growl. "Playing? I like to play." His tongue dropped from his loose maw to meet the same height as his teetering claws. They sunk and bounced left and right into the plush undergrowth in anticipation. Azrael had these particular urges since he was young. He found excuse in Cassiel's far gone illusions to do away with his supposed aggressors. Uriel liked to toy with him, taunt him and tease him to surrender it over to his once packmates but continually revoked his privilege to follow through. Funny how, being where he was now, giving in may not have changed his fate after all. Uriel was wrong. No point being on his best behavior anymore. The excitement bulged from his tone when he ripped a chilling snarl in the rogues' direction. His body rushing forward against the wind was a sensation he knew well, but the marriage of this feeling with his newfound freedom was a new discovery. Anyone could see in the crazed but knowing electricity in his gleaming red eyes that he had no intention of stopping himself this time. His claws came forward towards the redder wolf's shoulders and his jaw came in towards his neck at the same time. The shadowy stranger behind him was of no import to Azrael as he focused in on drawing blood from his target with intention to kill, tail wagging behind him all the while in outlandish glee. The rogues were outnumbered with Uriel and Cassiel ready behind him. Daem Aaravos Uriel Cassiel
