Spirit could almost always be found moseying about somewhere like this, where the landscape rises to meet the sun, a peaceful marriage of rainbow hues. One might think this lonesome life was too savage for a wolf who likes to stop and smell the flowers, but they forget why flowers would entice so many insects and birds with their beautiful aromas: to feed hungry wolves like Spirit!
Spirit hummed as he gnawed away at the tiny creature's flesh. The busy bird had two very important jobs to do (in no particular order), one, to spread the seeds, and two, to satisfy a rogue's stomach. "Thank you, bird." Spirit missed the days when he would chase boars with his sisters. He thought of them every time he put a meal to his maw, and so he was more grateful for every bite of this tiny bird than a brute would be for a bull. It was his memories that sustained him, not things.

Putting her legs to the dire task of navigating cliff after cliff was a feat that came to a much-needed end, thankfully by sunset. The valley was much more forgiving on her muscles but she was left with a pang in her stomach. Looking out she could see many small lumps of earth with little burrows in the center scattered across the terrain. She'd seen these before once or twice, but had never known their purpose until a brown head poked through one of the hollows. Her ears stood up on her head in curiosity. Their smell was foreign but distinct, and it make her purr with craving. What's more! Another one. A game? Chey steadied herself. There was no pattern to their appearance, so she would need to be quick. One pounce had her nose in the dirt. Another had almost snapped her paw right off after it slid down into the dugout. A lone wolf in the distance had Chey's pride scavenging for order, but to no avail. Spirit

While enjoying his snack, Spirit watched as an ashy white rogue attempted to outsmart the gophers. Concealing himself in the brush, Spirit laughed and continued to gnaw on his bird, and once he finished he felt inclined to sit around a little longer and entertain himself with her adorable (and pitiful) show of pride. Finally, he decided to stand up and walk to her. He couldn't take the guilt anymore and had to help. His gait was nonthreatening. It was loose and gumpy, and he liked to saunter a little from side to side. "Why don't you take a break and stop to smell the flowers?" He asked, his voice sounding much older than he was. Beckoning her away from the gophers, bless their souls, he introduced himself. "Sorry if I startled you. I'm Spirit." Coming up towards the patch of daisies he'd been resting in, he licked the bit of blood off of his maw. "Honestly, gophers are more work than they're worth. Birds are a lot easier, and they love these daisies here because their seeds are nutritious. You'll get more than you knew you needed with just one sparrow."While he was speaking, he was stalking a sparrow he'd seen hanging around this patch for a while. It would have lived a long-ish life if he hadn't brought this new friend along. Unfortunately for him, Spirit pounced and caught him beneath his paws. Waiting some time after it stopped moving, he offered it to Chey. "Here you go."

Ekra came from the northeastern chaparral. He would've been born a coastal wolf if his family didn't elect to seclude themselves in the dense vegetation lining the beaches. He lived in thick, elevated landscapes his whole life so winding down these immense ridges was like second nature. Coming into the valley was another story, and as he began to feel the air become heavier and the wind quieter he was riddled with a sense of vulnerability. With such little breeze it was harder to detect smells. By the time he registered the two wolves in the valley with him he was already in their vicinity. Being in an unfamiliar landscape for the first time made his perception oversensitive. The lupine saw their movements, could hear the jet male's voice from where he walked, but the context was overlooked by his guarding senses. Instinctively he kept himself low to the ground when he passed them but it was almost impossible to obscure himself. There was almost always some form of cover in his homeland. Irked, he moved quicker, but then his peripherals caught the activity between the rogues. They were sharing food. He couldn't hear the sounds of competition and didn't see anybody bearing their teeth over their entitlement to a meal. It was rather curious, so he slowed down to investigate. He was inclined to approach them but it's something he typically would never do. In an awkward fit of decisiveness he trudged towards them with a lingering glower to his visage, but as he was still feeling out their auras he had yet to say anything. Chey Spirit

When she saw the male approach, she was sure she had fully humiliated herself now. Even as he neared she couldn't put away her stern desire to recover from the situation, still pawing half-desperately at the burrows for a win. Chey's defeated expression fell over him as soon as he opened his maw. Such words surely couldn't be so genuine, she thought, but his warm spirit radiated through his dark-toned coat like the early autumn sunrise. In his eyes were a kindness she only knew how to associate with betrayal, but her body knew she couldn't resist that prospect, and it dragged her into his atmosphere. "Birds are a lot easier," he said with such coolness but Chey simply did not believe such an outrageous claim. Oh no, he's one of those poppy eaters. In her prime youth Chey might've been inclined to ask, but experience with various plants had amassed enough regret––Deep. Regret.––to make her blush nervously at the thought. All of his movements made it easy to detect his intentions, though, and Chey soon came to realize he only wanted to help her. It was a difficult seed to swallow, but her stomach denied her right to complain. She looked at Spirit, just now registering his name as suitable, and hesitantly accepted his gift. "Well, Spirit, I didn't believe you at first. But that's a nice trick you've taught me. Thank you," she said, finally letting her guard down enough to smile. It let this warm flood briefly take over her body as she felt the unbuckling of her muscles, her skin feeling looser and a small tingle in her scalp disappearing. Her system capacity was through the roof, ever-so sensitive, but when it dialed down she finally felt like herself. For that she was more grateful to Spirit than for the bird. With Spirit here, her defenses didn't react to intensely to the other rogue who was approaching, unless he was one to flee, which she would soon find out. Whatever happened, the kindness Spirit showed her was something she wanted to repay, so she spoke up to the rogue as he came closer. "Hey there. Have you come to smell the flowers?" Chey's tail wagged behind her, proud of her little joke. She side-eyed Spirit, impressed with herself, and chuckled at him. @ekra Spirit

Deeply satisfied with his success in freeing the lupine's inner being rom her defenses, Spirit's cheeks warmed as they pulled back in a beaming grin. "You are quite welcome, my dear." It seemed the ground and Spirit's rump were always attracting each other, as he found himself cozying up to the brush beneath him once again. His flank began tor roll out against the undergrowth, but he pulled himself up quickly when another rogue approached. Chey's response to him gave Spirit a spark of pride, and as he painstakingly lifted himself onto his feet, he poured out a modest chuckle. "Listen my friends, I am on a pilgrimage to the rocky shores of the east. I embark on this quest every year at this time to honor my sister and pay tribute to her spirit. I should be on my way now, but I would be thrilled to have some company." Spirit pivoted on his feet quickly. He would have stayed here forever talking to the she-wolf and introducing himself to male, finding it more difficult to say goodbye with every passing moment. An abrupt end to the conversation was all he could do to avoid the minor sting to his heart a response of "no" would wreak. -Exit to the CAAAAAAAVES- Chey @ekra

"Hey there. Have you come to smell the flowers?" Ekra's ear twitched in irritation. From the looks of the rogue's prideful smile and confidently wagging tail, Ekra doubted whether her question was meant to be taken modestly. The way she chuckled at her friend seemed like they were poking fun at Ekra, and he didn't like it at all. Ekra's perceptions were always on his worst side, unfortunately, but knowing how difficult it was to make friends because of it, he decided to slam that door shut. It took every fiber of his tiny capacity of willpower he had to put on a smile. "Uh, no." He said, but he took too long, and the other male was already turning around and heading away. Niceness was a quality in wolves Ekra tended to take as a threat, but he didn't feel like he had the choice to turn this one down. The authenticity in the male's words, bringing up his sister, it made Ekra feel strangely welcome. "I'll come with you," he chimed. Ekra trotted nervously up to him, examining his gentle features. "Sorry about your sister," he whispered while following close. -Exit to caves- Spirit Chey

Big game: 1-6 gopher, 7-14 rabbit, 15-18 other bird, 19-20 fat mammal thing
Predator: 1-7 owl, 8-10 badger, 11-20 bandi-coon
Predator chance: 1-8 no predator, 9-12 predator, 13-15 no predator, 16-20 predator - rolled a 1 Duefas walked through the ankle high grass, leisurely, tasting the air. There were scents of meerkat scattered about, here and there. It was fascinating for him to watch the little creatures pop their heads out of their holes. It was like a game of peek-a-boo really. Observing as two of the small animals bobbed up and down, communicating with each other, he couldn’t help but chuckle. Watching them go, up and down, and up and down repetitively was amusing. It was like there was some sort of choreography that they were dancing to. 'What a rave,' he thought, sighing as he moved onwards through the hilled terrain. The time he had spent away from the pack he had grown up in hadn’t been all that bad. He knew how to hunt, so that wasn’t an issue. Though as for fighting, the only slight predator he came across was a fox, and it didn’t do any harm but growl and run away. His favorite part about dispersing was probably the freedom of being able to make his own choices without having to endanger others. If something were to go wrong, he would be the only one to deal with the consequences of the actions he took. Finding his way through a cool looking rock tunnel just big enough for him to crawl through, he found himself on the other side of the rock he had just entered. Following the gray smooth surface to the left until he reached the spot where he had first originally gone through the tunnel. Laughing to himself at his newfound revelation, he went back through the tunnel once more. On the other side of the rock, the grass still stretched to as far as he could see. The hills flatten out to reveal a hefty patch of flat ground, covered in shade by a cluster of large aspen trees. The weather was getting cooler as the day progressed, and it wasn’t much help that winter was arriving at a fast pace. As the sun started to fall beneath the horizon, Duefas watched as the blue sky changed colors like the leaves of the trees he was now laying under. The clouds gathered themselves just barely in the way of the setting sun, the few rays of light shining through the mostly transparent cotton ball looking formations of mist filled things. The sky was painted a base color of orange, with a watercolor, airbrushed look of pinks, purples, and yellows. The view was a beautiful one, it was one that Duefas wouldn’t mind looking into forever. Time passed quickly when he had a good time. It wasn’t too long before the sun was completely hidden, the moon showing itself brighter than the sun had been. Basking in the moonlight for a little while, he thought about where he would travel next. His stomach grumbled lightly, with a sigh Duefas got up from his comfortable position, trudging, slightly grumpily to where he last scented prey. It wasn’t long before his ears caught the sounds of mice scuffling under and on top of leaves. His eyes couldn’t necessarily see the small creatures, though he could hear where they were going. All he had to do was time himself correctly, grabbing one of the fast mammals at the right interval to make sure that he succeeded in hunting them. Holding his frame still, Duefas held his breath listening to the sounds of the mice walking through the fallen leaves. Timing his lunge, he ended up successfully snatching up not one, but two mice. One of the mice was rather meaty, so it would certainly help to satisfy his hunger for a little while. Crunching into their small bodies was an easy feat, their thin bones broke with a soft snap. Going back to where he had decided to sleep for the night, now somewhat full, he laid back down. Watching the branches of the trees above him swaying with the wind bringing along fireflies that danced flickering in the moonlight, he closed his eyes. Listening to the cicadas sing, and feeling a few moths fluttering around his body, making some of his hairs stand on edge. The peaceful vibe lasted all night, though he wouldn’t know that as he fell asleep shortly after he shut his eyes.

Feathery feet padded along the rows of yellow and red puffs that lined the valley. The winds were not too strong but they were cold, and Tamren felt the icy sting through his nasal cavity each time he'd lap up the diverse array of scents floating through the atmosphere. He'd been on a particular trail for a few hours, following the promising impressions in the ground that were big enough for those jumpy little mammals. Coming up onto the crest of a hilly platform, Tamren peered down and spotted a sparse accumulation of rogues, one attempting the mission he'd employed himself on but failing to snag a catch. The snow-colored lupine settled for whatever treat her companion offered, and soon came another. His tail wagged at the prospect of meeting such friendly rogues, and he quickly made his way down the hill, but alas, his feathery foot lodged itself into one the gopher holes.
He gasped in frustration, yanked and yanked, his claws trying to dig a wider hole and create enough room for escape. "Aha!" Tamren yipped cheerfully, finally having control of his leg again but losing control over the rest of his body as the force of the pull destabilized his frame. Down with his body came pieces of the hill's foundation, rocks and dirt flinging past him while he slid uncontrollably to more stable ground. Unharmed but humiliated, by the time he looked out in their direction the group of rogues were distant and on their away. Tamren had just missed the party.
"I hate gophers," he growled in defiance while picking his dusty frame off the ground. Luckily, his near-death experience planted him by a deciduous tree that appeared to house another wolf. The leaves would have concealed his body if the moonlight didn't peer through the branches just perfectly. If Tamren's obnoxious tumble hadn't waken him up, the penetrating resonance of his cheery yips most certainly would have. "Good evening fellow traveler!" As his sharp voice carried he picked up his paw in greeting, but as it swung out in an old-fashioned "hello" so flew a tiny rock that had been lodged in between his phalanges from the fall, and by chance it struck itself right between the fellow's eyes. "Whoops, sorry!"

When she reached the top of the hill, at the northernmost point of the mountain valley, she let her haunches thump to the ground and nearly rocked backwards with the force of it. Her pads pulsed with a dull, throbbing ache, almost numb, yearning for rest. And for a moment she allowed it. She took in the the downward plunge, the moonlit peaks that rose in the west. When her eyes settled on the distant point where the flatlands met the trees, a chuff of laughter escaped her. Something tight in her belly was unwinding, and she watched her breath cloud the chill night air.
Her poor paws. Relief was distant yet, but now, at least, she’d get another chance at wandering in the woods.
Still, she couldn’t help the ripple that passed down her back and left the fur there creeping upwards. The scents she’d noted miles back had all converged here. She was not in the mood to flash her fangs at some underfed, over-assertive traveler, let alone the gang of them that had passed through so recently. But if this was any indication, she’d run into plenty more before she reached…
Hmph. Mink shook out her ruff and pushed off the grass, leaving that thought unfinished. It was a simpler thing to focus on the “going” than the “where”… and anyway, her stomach had been protesting for the last several miles. That was something she could take care of.
But it would have to wait. Her ears twitched silently as she halted her descent, eyes landing on a wolf, a male, who had paused further below. Friend, or… She blinked, and blinked again when in the span of a heartbeat the stranger had unstuck himself from an unseen obstacle, only to send himself tumbling down the hill. …Uh, foe? She winced at the impact of his body and the earsplitting clatter of rocks and debris that followed him, but she couldn’t help but chuckle. And despite her wariness, the stranger had inadvertently given her a gift: watch your step.
She carefully made her way downwards, letting the full weight of each step sink into the earth before moving onward. Mink gave him a wide berth, but not so wide that she couldn’t hear his growl of complaint… and cheerful greeting. A closer look revealed that the wolf had nearly stumbled onto another, who appeared to be resting or sleeping. She tensed, a little less amused. That right there was a surefire way to get your nose bitten off. She was curious to see how the wolf would react… but if things took a turn, well, at least the plains gave her plenty of room to run.

Duefas was in a peaceful state. His sleep was sound enough that he didn't hear the oncoming travelers paw steps as they headed their way over to where he lay. It wasn't too long before sounds did slightly rouse Duefas from his slumber, though he wasn't completely awake. It couldn't have been but a mere millisecond after he had registered the chime of someone's greeting that something smooth and hard thumped against his skull. The rock didn't stay attacking the brute's head for long, as he heard it make a 'dunp' sound as it changed its chosen trajectory towards the ground. Now slightly more awake, though also semi-re unconscious, Duefas slowly opened his eyes, his head now throbbing greatly. His vision was a little impaired, and things seemed to be a bit foggy. For more than just a moment it felt as though the world was spinning around him, taunting him to do something. It also didn't help that he couldn't even respond to the newcomers greeting as he didn't hear, nor remember what the wolf said. "Ow," he said blatantly. Duefas was pretty sure he had suffered a concussion at the very least. That rock was surely small but mighty. Kinda like himself. Knowing it wouldn't be the wisest thing to go back to sleep after having been the victim of such an unlucky hit to the head, he just tried to regain his clouded perception back. @tamren Mink

Pree's paws felt heavy as she trudged along. How long had she been running now? She had lost count of the days, months maybe. She missed her home. Missed her family. Had anyone made it out of the attack? Would she see any of them again? Probably not. She would be too far by now. The pack had all gone separate ways, each of them trying to get away. There was no way any of them could survive against a pack of full-blooded-.... She let out a gasp. Wolves. She could see two of them, one figure seeming to be sleeping, or at least he had been. Maybe she hadn't been spotted yet. But the smells. It was like they were everywhere. Immediately she ducked down, hoping her small frame would be concealed among the grasses. That was one blessing about this place. It was a lot like the prairie she had lived in with her pack. It gave her plenty of space to hide, and plenty of room to run. But for now, she would stay crouched, watching the wolves with wide, nervous eyes. Maybe they wouldn't know she was there. Maybe they wouldn't look to the now-trembling grasses. Maybe she would be okay. @duefas ,@tamren , Mink ,

Hoshi treaded carefully down the gentle hill slope, padded by the soft grass and yellow daisies. The gentle breeze that tickled her fur gradually dissipated as she descended into the valley of towering stone walls. Having been sheltered by her family, Hoshi never had to experience this pang of hunger which clenched tightly onto her underbelly. Now, she knew she desperately needed a successful hunt. Without her siblings' help, Hoshi figured she would have to settle with a small rat or sparrow of sorts. Speaking of which, her nostrils picked up the myriad of scents that the cold, fresh air was teeming with. Some were from prey, which she began tracking down. Others were from rogue wanderers - there were at least 3 of them. Hoshi pressed her snout against the soil and began sniffing, now beginning to feel the weariness of her legs. Right, being alone is much harder than I thought As soon as she catches her meal, she decided she would pop into one of the caverns etched into the cliffs and sleep for the rest of the day. Along with the taste of the rodents, the scents of the other wolves grew stronger. Suddenly, at the corner of her eyes, Hoshi spotted some grass shaking in the near distance. A wolf - her nose told her. Crouching down low, Hoshi abandoned the trail of prey she had been following, straying towards the stranger. She stopped just a few feet away, watching the other rogue tensing up. Following the other wolf's wide-eyed gaze, Hoshi came to realise that there were a few others in the vicinity. One appeared to have been rudely awoken from a peaceful slumber, the other was standing, and a third voice came from somewhere Hoshi couldn't quite see. After noticing that the nearest figure was quivering and hiding, Hoshi decided she wasn't a threat. "Boo!" Hoshi blurted out, before chuckling. "Uhm, yeah-hi!" Pree @duefas @tamren Mink

Tamren's gregarious recovery was not well received––or the stranger had been too mystified to hear Tamren's apologetic notes––but all that the male threw into the void for Tamren to find assurance in was a plain, low "Ow." Well, he could talk! He might have been mistaken for regrettably shaking his head side to side, but he was alternating his awareness between three wolves newly entering the grounds below the hill. One of them was barely visible behind the lush, dark grass, and Tamren wouldn't have spotted her if another hadn't announced her position with a playful "Boo!" "Uh, you're fine, right?" Tamren whimpered with an inattentive smile before prancing away towards the younger male and the obscured female. "Oh! Are we playing hide and seek? Dude, I love that game. I'll count this time." Tamren stated enthusiastically, no room for any questions. But upon rotating his body in a vibrant fashion he plunged himself right into the body of a small, reddish female he detected earlier. I really need to pay more attention to my surroundings. Tamren huffed, his ears aligning with his skull briefly while he sat back onto his rear, a nervous smile encroaching on his quivering lips. "You made it down the hill! Thanks to me, I'm sure."

Pree was zoned in on the two wolves that were speaking with each other. So focused, that she never even noticed the wolf that was sneaking up behind her. And she didn't notice, or didn't care, how scared she already was. And she couldn't help but scream when the other wolf made her presence known. Spinning around, she immediately got low to the ground, trying to put herself in a submissive pose. She regarded the female with large, fearful eyes, afraid of what she would do next. But she just chuckled, as if nothing had ever happened. And Pree's brows scrunched together, clearly confused. One of the wolves she had been watching earlier had now approached, and Pree sunk even further to the ground. She just wanted to get out of here. They were treating this all as if it was a game. Did they enjoy tormenting her? Was she just a new coywolf toy to play with? Why were they doing this to her? The wolf she had been watching turned around, but almost immediately ran into another wolf. So now she was surrounded by three wolves, and she was sure the fourth would be coming as well. She was trapped. All the wolves were much bigger than her, being pure wolf without the mix of coyote she had in her blood. There was no way she could fight even one of these wolves, let alone four of them. And now she had no way of escape either. So she closed her eyes tight, still trembling with fear. Maybe they would have mercy on her, or at least make her death quick. But judging by the way they tormented her now, that was unlikely. @duefas,@tamren, Mink, Hoshi,
